Because California plants have adapted to our local climate, soils, and fauna; gardening with natives offers several advantages to the homeowner:

Water Conservation: California native plants have adapted to dry conditions, once established minimal irrigation is required.

Low Maintenance: While conventional non-native gardens require regular upkeep using heavy equipment, fertilizers, and pesticides, a California garden will only need seasonal pruning of shrubs and trees.

Support Wildlife: Native gardens support the local wildlife, they attract birds, butterflies, pollinators, and other beneficial insects. This reduces the need of pesticides while supporting the local ecosystem.

Encelia californica

Penstemon heterophyllus ‘Margarita BOP’

Calliandra eryophylla

While, native plants are those that existed in California prior to the arrival of European explorers and colonists, California friendly plants are those that have been introduced and have adapted to the California Mediterranean climate such as lavenders, lantanas, and olive trees.

California native plants are those that grow naturally in California, they are sustainable because they require less water and maintenance, reduce the dependence on fertilizers and pesticides, and help sustain …

["post-27","page","type-page","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
